$50 reward for appliance recycling - ContinuedIf you are a Maryland Pepco residential customer and have an old refrigerator or freezer in your home, we'll come pick it up at no additional cost. The refrigerator, freezer and/or room air conditioner must be empty, plugged in and in working (cooling) condition at the time of pickup. Room air conditioners must be removed from windows prior to pickup. Older refrigerators and freezers typically use 75 percent more energy than the newer ENERGY STAR®models. By recycling your old working fridge or freezer, you can save up to $150 a year in future energy costs. The average refrigerator 10 years old or older contains about 159 pounds of steel, 75 pounds of plastic and 10 pounds of glass. Recycling with us ensures sustainable handling of these materials and reduces the need for landfills. To schedule a pickup, call 877-395-5540 or visit pepco.com/ApplianceRecycling.
Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown will open the discussion on exploring the ways that businesses can work together with Maryland's diverse communities to advance the cause of environmental justice.
The event is co-sponsored by MDE, DBED, the Maryland Chamber of Commerce and the Governor's Commission on Environmental Justice and Sustainable Communities.
The keynote address will be "Why Business Engagement with the Community Makes Sense" by Waste Management Inc. Vice President Sue Briggum.
After her speech, the dialogue will continue with an interactive session led by College Park Mayor Andy Fellows.
Please join us and help spread the word about this important discussion on what "environmental justice" means for Maryland.
At the core of MDE's mission is the belief that we all hold a stake in the protection and restoration of our state's air, water and land resources. This partnership leads us to strive to ensure that all our efforts contribute to sustainable economic growth, safeguard the integrity of our state's environment, secure the health of our communities and above all, pursue these goals in a way that is equitable and excludes no one from participation in the process.
